Background STORY:
(press release from IR)
IR 22 routes to rootz is a vinyl and digital release .A special limited edition 12 inch vinyl with full color poster has been created and will be given free to the public in conjunction with the artists involved in the creative process of the recording.

The images of the vinyl artwork originates in the Solomon Islands in the south pacific which is also home to some of the indigenous artists that appear on the record. The artwork and design was created in brasil by dubdem and the record itself was pressed at bob Marley’s Tuff Gong’s recording and pressing plant in Kinston, Jamaica.

Indigenous Resistance I.R as an integral part of its work presents vinyl records, cds, books and video free of charge to the public as part of their
FREEDUB series.

This vinyl IR22 will be part of that as in conjunction with some of the artists who participated in the recording there will be a special week of freedub and a global launch for this release.

During a week in September launch parties and DJ events will be held simultaneously in Bogotá, Colombia, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, Tenerife Canary Islands.

At these events the public will able to receive free copies of the vinyl. Pittsburgh’s Soma Mestizo is organizing a special event that will precede the upcoming G 20 protests.

The vinyl features the tracks “routes to roots” and “indigenous & sacred”
Routes to Roots is an experimental dissolve all borders dub and electro track where a vast array of musicians, singers, artists from different times and spaces make an appearance. Dub legends Augustus Pablo, Mikey Dread (producer and participant in many landmark recordings by The Clash) peter tosh’s drummer Santa Davis, Chuck D from Public Enemy and producer Freashmint. The trak features famed British dub poet Benjamin Zephaniah who refused the Order of the British Empire from the Queen because it reminded him of “how my foremothers were raped and my forefathers brutalized.” On this track Benjamin does a heartfelt poem against domestic violence. Traditional indigenous singers from Solomon Islands, Sosolakam and Turtle Island (the indigenous name for north America)

The mix presented on this vinyl was done live in the high altitude of Bogotá, Colombia by Colombian DJ Rodrigo using a variety of Indigenous Resistance tracks.
A full length release “IR18 THE DJ RODRIGO BOGOTA MIXTAPE’ that has other DJ Rodrigo mixes of IR traks was releases earlier this year.

The track “Indigenous and Sacred” is a special extended mix of the track “tattoo” that was released on the cd IR 10 Indigenous Dublands. On this mix which was specially mastered at Tuff Gong in Jamaica by Gary Sutherland (mixing engineer on the classic Alpha Blondy cds) you can hear the full extent of the collaboration.

Never before recorded traditional instruments from the Solomon Islands & Sosolakam are brilliantly fused with electronic sounds and dub influenced textures by Soma Mestizo, 3 Generations Walking producer Soy Sos .In this track traditional indigenous singing by tuhununo an saevo from the Solomon islands blend with Christiane D dub spiritual vocals. This is a track that created on different sides of the globe with the Internet being one of the conduits to allow this musical collaboration to happen.

This collaboration was one of the most special that IR has ever been involved with and this twelve-inch vinyl with special artwork is a celebration of this.

For those without turntables the tracks are available as digital downloads from itunes and other digital download sites.
